Ali Salim, MD

Dr. Salim is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Kaiser San Francisco and a fellowship-trained reconstructive microsurgeon in practice since 2007.

Dr. Salim has been providing transgender care at Kaiser for many years and trained with Dr. Stan Monstrey in Ghent, Belgium. Having completed a microvascular surgery fellowship at Stanford University, he has a special interest in phalloplasty. In addition, he has been very active providing vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, and breast surgery for transwomen within the Kaiser system.

Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Salim completed a seven-year residency program that encompassed plastic and general surgery at UC Davis, in addition to wound healing research at the Children’s Surgical Research Lab at Stanford. His interest in medical research stems from undergraduate and medical school studies, both at UCLA. Along the way, Dr. Salim spent time studying breast cancer at the National Institutes of Health as a Howard Hughes researcher.
